Immature Behavior of Upper Management
I am a Director of Nursing who, unwittingly, walked into a situation where a tight clique existed. The Administrator, the then-ADON, and an LPN Unit Manager apparently go "winery-hopping" together and refer to themselves as the Power Puff Girls. I wasn't there a month, when I was informed that the LPN ADON would be transitioning to Assistant Administrator, and my new ADON would be this unit manager. I was given absolutely no say in who would be my ADON. If you have every worked in these types of roles, you know that the DON/ADON partnership HAS TO BE SMOOTH. It's unheard of for the DON not to have the final say in who is offered this position. So, as soon as I pushed back on this idea (largely because I wanted an RN in the role. An LPN cannot step in and fill the shoes), I was banished. I have been excluded in petty ridiculous ways and very important ways. I have been searching for employment elsewhere, and I believe I will be offered a staff nurse in a Surgical Oncology unit of a large medical group early next week. I will not miss the world of long term care and will never look back. Anyone else have experiences like this?
