parking tips for slander presents: voyager - saturday pass at armory (minneapolis 01/31)
figured i'd share some parking tips for slander at the armory on 01/31 because parking downtown near us bank stadium is honestly the worst part of any big show there. it's always a nightmare getting in and out, so you gotta have a plan a, b, and c.
first up, a lot of people are using an app called Prked now. it lets you rent a driveway or private garage spot from someone who lives right next to the venue. it’s usually way cheaper than the event ramps, and the best part is you skip all the main road traffic because you’re coming in on a side street for a short walk. it’s an easy move to beat the post-show gridlock.
if you prefer a ramp, the armory actually offers parking in the venue itself, which is super convenient. it's managed by impark and the entrance is off 5th ave s or 5th st. it’s a heated ramp, which is a big plus for january in minneapolis, and it gives you indoor queuing access. you can pre-purchase a spot online through sites like parkwhiz or parkonect to guarantee a space and get a better rate than paying at the gate, sometimes around $16 for the night. just remember you need to pull out within an hour after the show ends.
for nearby options, there are a ton of other ramps a short walk away. the government center garage is one of the closest options, about a minute walk, and you can pre-book there too. the hyatt place ramp on 5th ave s is another solid choice and sometimes one of the cheaper bookable options. the gateway parking ramp is also an easy 5-minute walk. when you look for parking passes online, pre-paying through an app can save you a decent chunk of money off the standard drive-up rate.
traffic is always a beast in this area, especially if there's an event at the u.s. bank stadium across the street, which can throw 100,000 extra people downtown. even though it's a saturday night and not rush hour, plan to get there early to find your spot and avoid the traffic control agents rerouting cars. if you're trying to get to the interstate after, aim for 6th street to i-94 eastbound or 3rd street to the westbound i-94/i-394 to try and escape the mess.
hope this helps you have an awesome night seeing slander!
