NVMe died, RMA in progress, considering jumping from AM4 to AM5

Build Help

So my NVMe just straight up died. Health dropped to 0%, went read-only, and the system wouldn’t boot anymore. I’m currently RMA’ing it, but it’s going to take a few days to come back.

For now, I installed Windows on my other SATA SSD so I can still use my PC. When the NVMe comes back from RMA, I’m probably going to sell it instead of trusting it again.

On top of that, my 2x8GB DDR4 RAM kit is also faulty, so that’s also going in for RMA.

Because of this whole situation, I started thinking about just moving platforms entirely. Once the NVMe and the RAM come back, I’m considering selling all of them. That includes the RMA’d NVMe, the RMA’d DDR4 kit, and even the current 2x8GB DDR4 RAM I’m using right now.

I did the math, and after selling everything, the upgrade from AM4 to AM5 would probably only cost me around $140–$200 USD. The plan would be to move from a Ryzen 5 5600 to a Ryzen 5 7500F and switch to DDR5.

Also worth mentioning: since my RAM broke, I’ve been temporarily running 16GB of DDR4, and honestly, I didn’t really feel any difference in my normal usage. Because of that, I’m thinking of just settling with 16GB DDR5 for the AM5 build. In my area, DDR4 32GB is actually more expensive than DDR5 16GB, so I’d save a bit of money there as well.

So the main point of this post is to ask:

  1. Will I actually notice a real-world difference going from an NVMe drive back to a SATA SSD for Windows and general use?
  2. If my current workload feels perfectly fine on 16GB DDR4, is it safe to assume I’ll be more than fine with 16GB DDR5 as well?

Curious to hear your thoughts and whether this upgrade path makes sense, or if I’m just letting a dead NVMe push me into overthinking everything.
