Office optics: pls lend your wisdom
Been lurking here quietly for 6+ months and finally took the plunge.
Currently in hand: SMP 300, IWC Mark XX. People in office already complementing these to no end (blushing :D)
On the way: DJ, Sub No Date, 5712, Calatrava 5227 😅
I work in a fairly high-profile, conservative profession (as anyone can see from my username). For the last few years, the only watches anyone has ever seen me wear are a Casio, or very occasionally a VC white dial for special events.
Now the question that’s been bugging me: should I worry about office perception if I suddenly start rotating multiple “high-end” watches? Social settings I don’t care about. close friends know me well. But at work, especially in Europe where attitudes feel more conservative than the US, I’m wondering if it risks coming across as… fake or try-hard.
To be clear: my job could easily justify these watches financially (people easily wear Gen AP or PP or even ALS). I’m not stretching. I just want to play it safe and low-key, not raise eyebrows unnecessarily.
Would love to hear thoughts from the seasoned folks here: should I keep rotations subtle on not overdo it? Should I stick to tool watches for work? Or am I massively overthinking this?
Guys in the office: don’t mention if you’re part of this sub :D
