More Salt?

When I went to the gym this morning, I saw a plow truck with more salt/snow melt in the back... Growing up in a place with lots of snow, more salt won't actually help. All it does is keep the sun from hitting the darker asphalt, which would cause it to heat up more and melt the snow. More salt also sticks to the cars and can cause rust damage. In an effort to appear like they're doing something, the city is actually making things worse.
