Do IB schools reject students with average marks?

A lot of students panic if they’re not scoring super high before applying to IB.
But “average marks” can mean very different things depending on consistency and how the student performs over time.
Short answer: usually no, not if the basics are strong and the student shows readiness.

Here’s how it generally works:
• Consistency matters more than one bad term
A steady 70 to 85 profile often looks safer than huge ups and downs.
• Schools look at fundamentals
Reading, writing, reasoning, and math basics matter a lot.
• Improvement trend helps
If your marks are rising, many schools take that seriously.
• Fit checks happen in interviews or tests
They try to see if you can manage workload and deadlines, not just memorize.

Curious to hear from others:
If you got in with average marks, what do you think helped your case?
