Yu Wanuin (character)/Wang Cuihua (real name) - corporate drone who is brought into the novel The Devil's Beloved Consort, which is a transmigration novel based on another novel
Xiahou Dan (character)/Zhang San (real name) - transmigrator, emperor and villain of both novels
Xie Yonger - transmigrator, she read the original novel, A Thousand Trees Blossoming at Night in the East, "cannon fodder" (a character who dies for the plot) in the original novel, female lead of the transmigration novel
Xiahou Bo (name) /Prince Duan (title) - Xiahou Dan's brother, transmigration status unknown, male lead of both novels

Ep 7: Xiahou Dan continues to publicly favour Xie Yonger. However, he's devoted to Yu Wanuin in private and says he'll let her do what she wants. We get her response while drunk, where she says she trusts him (awww).
Yu Wanuin is invited to speak with Prince Duan. It turns out the prince has figured out that something is off with all three of the transmigrators. At first Yu Wanuin is depressed and thinks she might be a character herself, but then it occurs to her that Prince Duan might just have noticed that the three of them are off. She decides to test him again.
They gather all the scholars together on a boat. Xiahou Dan does a great job buttering them up... it seems. They say trying to reform the court is useless because the emperor is a tyrant. He reveals his true identity, that other factions have been in charge, and tells them he's trying to make up for his previous mistakes.
Ep 8: After some more opposition, Xiahou Dan and Yu Wanuin mostly convince the scholars to join them. As they are leaving, assassins attack from Prince Duan. Yu Wanuin decides to fight Prince Duan no matter what (in the novel she screams "fuck him," this line was probably changed but I can't speak Chinese I can only read subtitles where she says "let's get him," it must have been modern words because later Xiahou Dan says it might have exposed her).
One of the scholars dies but they save the rest. Prince Duan is NOT happy that he didn't succeed (what a great male lead to take over the country... this is at best a lateral move).
Yu Wanuin is fairly sure that Prince Duan is a character, since he went after their decoy as well as their real party. However, she becomes suspicious of Xiahou Dan because their plan was leaked but the single death inspired the rest of the scholars, so it seems to have been leaked to his benefit. She can't figure out who else would have known.
The scholars hold a funeral, Yu Wanuin is participating in a flower banquet with the other palace women, and she runs into Prince Duan again...
