Elevator pee-er and litterbox enclosures

Litterbox

Hi fellow cat lovers, my question didn’t seem to be answered in the other “elevator pee-er” threads so I thought I’d start a new one.

My cat has elevator peed all his life (6 y old male) and has been cleared by the vet. It happens about 70% of the time he pees. When we tried a covered or high sided litter box, that frequency increased to almost 100% of the time. So, now we just deal with the 70% in an open litter box set up because it’s easier to clean. A behavioural specialist told us that the high sides and covered boxes can encourage elevator peeing. She also said cats prefer multiple entry points to a litterbox.

I’ve started to look into litter box enclosures like this one from Wayfair. Has anyone tried these with an elevator pee-er and noticed if the frequency changes?

Obviously we’ll still have to deal with a 70% rate of elevator peeing with a 50% chance of getting some outside the box. But, I’d rather it be within the enclosure instead of my hard wood floors. I’m also hoping that this doesn’t increase the frequency because the enclosure is bigger than closed litter boxes.

Oh, and top entry is not an option. He will literally pee standing up by propping himself halfway out of the entry hole.

TIA!
