What do you think makes a good romantasy?

Discussion

All-time reader, soon-to-be writer here :)

**You don't have to read all my rant to give me an answer, I think the title is explicit enough. Just thought it'd add more context to everything ;) TLDR at the bottom

As I'm approaching the second phase of planning my book (AKA putting my thoughts down on paper), I've been wondering what's something romantasy/fantasy romance readers like in particular?

Obviously, as mentioned above, I am a reader. Which inspired me to start my own project. However, I am not that picky when reading, especially writing-wise, since I like any books that are entertaining. I don't mind cringey/repetitive tropes as long as the plot is good. I don't pick up on plot holes unless it's a re-read either. And I only pick up on mistakes in the book after reading the reviews LOL. Because of this I'm unfortunately not a good judge of character on what makes a book good. This may prove to be something detrimental to my book on the long run.

So I'm asking you, dear readers, to enlighten me. Share me your thoughts on some aspects that often appear in romantasies. Dual or single POV, which is better? Do you mind repetitive sub-plot points that you will find across many other books? Do you like reading about a thoroughly developed world-building, or do you prefer it being lowkey? I already have my own opinion formed on these subjects but I'm just wondering what other people think.

On another hand, do you have any "icks" that will IMMEDIATELY make you go DNF a book? For example, I know badly written romance will turn people away extremely fast. But what makes a romance badly written?

Give me all your thoughts and examples, on any subject you want (writing style, plot points, tropes, etc), I'm curious :)

TLDR: I want to write a book, curious to see the reasons that will often make a book "good" or "bad". Share your thoughts!
