Referral from internal employee and thumbs up from hiring manager but waiting 2 weeks on the recruiter to do their job...

I have a former colleague who gave me a referral for an open role. They have already spoken to the hiring manager and the hiring manager has indicated to me that HR will be reaching out with next steps and to coordinate the interview.

It has been 2 weeks.

Nothing. I don't want to keep being pushy, but I did let the hiring manager know I haven't heard anything.

Its pretty infuriating to not hear anything. And even more so if they are just lying to me, I'm not sure what they would gain.

Is the recruiter just incompetent? What would you do in this situation?
