Thinking about quitting 1 month in
New PTF hired, I’m just working for me no kids or commitments lol but I don’t think this job is for me so quitting wouldn’t be the end of the world. This place is horribly mismanaged and they don’t see their carriers as humans. They have this faux 40 hour cap for the first 4 weeks for new PTFs that is part of the new union agreement but the supervisors everyday basically set you up with 6 day, 12 hour workdays anyway. I had to consistently bring in my steward to play by the books, probably because I just learned a lot about how I probably would be better off with a regular 40 hour job. They don’t set you up for success because they know 4 hours of route is more like 12 but they pretend it’s not. It’s a walking post office so they don’t really use trucks and any ones they do have get rented out you basically are required to have a car to work where I am. I’m starting in the dead of winter so it’s 0 degrees snowing and I’m freezing cold starving with no where to go to the bathroom. I understand the extreme weather is part of the gig but they really don’t even make it feasible cause I can’t walk half a mile back to eat or use the bathroom or get warm every 2 or 3 hours. I was gonna save to get a car but I have been burning thru savings getting Ubers to the office and back to the route because it’s just not realistic to be outside for 10 hours no bathroom break no lunch. At least for me. I’d call myself a hard worker and I will say I did give it my all but I’d be lying if I said this pace was sustainable.
I didn’t wanna disappoint others by doing it but only 1 month in and I really just don’t see it lasting especially since I consider myself heat sensitive so the summer will be unbearable. I figured I could adjust but so far I’m being proven wrong. lol
