mechanical engineering vs industrial design engineering vs industrial design

hello, im interested in these careers, but im a bit confused about the different roles.

is a ME, IDE an ID on the same level in terms of knowledge and authority? does an ID need approval from an engineer before their product can be made or can they make products entirely on their own?
also, is there anything an ME wouldnt be able to do that an IDE can?
