Indian Wells tips for first timers please!

My bf loves playing and watching tennis, so I was thinking a great birthday gift would be getting tickets to this year’s Indian wells! It’s kinda late but I really want to make this happen.

I want to get tickets in stadium 1 so we can watch some of the top (and his favorite) players play, but I’m not sure if the first or second weekend is better for that (or which day of the weekend is better). I’m also thinking of getting seats further back in the 400-500 sections but I’m not sure which sections have shade since I heard it can get very hot. Also, should I buy tickets closer to the day of since I’m not sure if it will get cheaper as the day of the event approaches.

I honestly know nothing about tennis or watching competitive sports tournaments, so any tips would be greatly appreciated! We would be driving there so I’m just looking to get the day session tickets :) Thank you so much!
