2 years ago my husband and I bought our first home. One of the conditions to the sale was having a brand new septic tank put in (as the other was old and the health department required it ). We requested a septic inspection from the company installing it but they said that wasn’t necessary since they were installing a new one. Our home inspection came back great too.

Neither of us had lived in a house with septic before , and within the first year noticed the grass was greener in certain spots of the yard, and lava rocks which I assume was to help leach field drainage. It has since gotten worse to the point we have a huge frozen lake in the yard that smells like sewage and I can see the exposed pipe where the water is coming out.

We have two dogs and I am due with my baby in only a few weeks and I am really distressed. One of the main reasons we got this house was the beautiful yard and now I feel like it’s posing a health risk to my growing family.

My questions are :

\-how dangerous is the water leaking out of the leach field to my family ?

\-I’m not sure we could afford to replace the leach field and I’m scared to reach out to a company to have this on record if we wanted to sell the house. What would replacement look like ?

Thanks for any advice .
