Accidentally damaged a counter with a hot pot lid. Is this a wooden counter or a wooden veneer? Is there anything I can do to minimise the damage?
I would be very grateful for any help at all.
This isn't my home and I've mistakenly damaged a wooden kitchen countertop after placing a hot pan lid on the surface. I didn't realise it was a burn mark and thought it was a paprika stain at first and used a cream cleaner. Then I realised the mark was not from paprika splashing onto the pan lid but a burn mark. I think the mark may have been worsened by the cleaning product but I'm not entirely sure. I didn't use it for long and cleaned it off thoroughly.
At the bottom of the ring there is a scratch that looks like this is not pure wood (it's white underneath). Is this a veneer? How should this best be repaired? I will likely go to a specialist but is there anything I can try at home if this is caused by the cleaning product? I've tried vinegar and I think that may have improved it slightly. I also dried it at a low temp with a hair dryer which helped. It looks like the blistered/bubble part at the bottom is from heat and the ring with the wider diameter is from the cream product.
