Which kind of cartoon character is easier to redesign in a naturalistic and volumetric cartoon style (like some of the cartoons and animated films from the 1940s-50s, and the 1980s-90s, along with the 2D-animated commercials from the 1980s-2000s), and why?

Is it a rubber-hose character (e.g. Felix the Cat, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Steamboat Willie-Era Mickey Mouse, Prototype Bugs Bunny, etc.), or a character that's designed for limited animation (e.g. just about every single character that was created by UPA and Hanna-Barbera during the 1950s-70s, including the early designs of mascots like the Trix Rabbit, the Nesquik Bunny, Tony the Tiger, etc.)?
