Want to talk about the US customary system and metric system for some reason

Yeah, for some reason felt like getting talking about this, so I will.

Primarily about why it would feel somewhat wrong, too fully eliminate US customary from the US

I know that sounds stupid but hear me out, us customary is one of those things that makes the US slightly different from the rest of the world, it gives us another little thing that makes us special and it gives people who use metric an excuse to be somewhat passionate about their own system because "hey look at the stupid Americans and their silly system for measuring stuff."

And that's nice, that's banter that's some form of passion, and hey it gives us an excuse to talk about it, about how both are used, about how one has an advantage over the other in X situation (although I would be a fool to say that metric isn't easier to use which makes it better overall.)

But this is where it kinda gets a little weird, I had a genuine thought about what would happen if the US customary system was finally replaced with the metric system and for some reason I felt like if that happened all the passion for the metric system would suddenly just die.

Because, why would you talk about how good your measuring system is, when there is no other system, hell why would you discuss the history of measurements? what would be so interesting, just keep using the measuring system we have now, there's nothing better to use, so just use that.

It would be the equivalent of letting apathy for the metric system take over, and apathy in my mind isn't a good thing, I feel like sometimes, people want to feel unique and they want to have a unique system so that they can compare it to another system and be able to argue about it.

Because when we can't argue about something, the world gets duller, less vibrant, more bland, and less enjoyable.

And before anyone asks I use a mix of US customary and metric, metric for weight and heat, Customary for height.
