Looking to swap my camp towel for something more versatile. What do you use?
Hey r/CampingandHiking,
I’m working on lightening and simplifying my pack for warmer weather trips. I’ve never loved my bulky microfiber camp towel-it does one job, takes up space, and feels weird against my skin.
Recently, I tried using a large, lightweight cotton sarong instead. So far, I’ve used it as:
A quick-dry towel after a swim or rinse.
A sun shield/cover-up at camp.
A clean sit pad or ground cloth.
An extra layer on cooler evenings.
It feels better, dries almost as fast in the sun, and does way more than just dry me off. It's become my go-to for car camping and lightweight backpacking when I know I'll be near water.
Do any of you use a similar multi-use item instead of a traditional towel? What's your favorite piece of gear that pulls double (or triple) duty in your pack?
(The one I've been testing is a thick cotton one from Sarong Hut Australia - it's held up well to rough use and regular washing.)
