Teacher or Software Engineer?
Passion vs Money
What concerns me about the software engineering route is that I'm not good at it because I don't love it. I graduated with my cs degree and practically cheated throughout most of it leveraging AI because I didn't care for it. This of course has led me to failing interviews, because there's a lack on knowledge. I do know it'll also be more stressful on my part.
I'm lucky enough to live in a district that pays teachers pretty well. They make roughly 74k a year starting but I'll have to spend an extra year of schooling to make less money. Nobody supports that route.
People tell me to pursue something that I'm good at and enjoy, so why not pursue teaching? I want to make money to support my family, I feel like once I grow up, struggling to pay bills and buy my kids the things they want will hurt me more than the job I work. So at the same time, why not pursue the career with the higher upside, assuming I have it in me to dial in and actually learn the material.
I would like to add that I do love teaching, I currently work as a tutor and work overtime for free because I want to get the kids to pass, and I do enjoy teaching them.
