How difficult is it to replicate the Fire Emblem structure in RPG Maker? I'm aiming for no overworld, Visual Novel-style storytelling, and a Support system, while keeping JRPG combat.

Hello everyone,

I am a new developer, and I’m planning my first project. My goal is to create a game structured like the GBA Fire Emblem titles, but featuring traditional JRPG combat.

Specifically, I want to skip the overworld map entirely. The structure I’m aiming for is:

  1. Story Segment: Visual Novel-style portraits and dialogue.
  2. Combat: Transition into a JRPG battle system.
  3. Post-Battle Segment: More dialogue to wrap up the chapter.

I also want to implement a support system similar to Fire Emblem. If certain characters participate in battle together (or stand near each other/switch in, similar to Persona), they build 'Support Points.' Between chapters, players can then watch these support conversations play out.

Instead of an 'S-Rank' being a romantic option, I want it to unlock a unique side mission for those characters.

I am curious: how difficult would this be to implement in RPG Maker? Should I stick with it, or should I look into a different engine?
