Therapists who think everything is about “pushback”
A lot of people /therapists assume healing only happens through confrontation, correction, or being challenged on your “problematic” behaviours.
But that’s just one modality and not always the right one, often hyperfocuses on the story and the symptom. Sometimes the story and the symptom is just a cluster point of dysregulation that doesn't really need to be unpacked, but held consistently in unconditional safety love and connection sometimes this is what allows the body to discharge those moments.
Most of the time once the underlying threat or attachment issues are sorted, the “pushback” or “problematic” behaviours often just melt away, they were never really the problem. People can spend years just chasing their tail with pushback type therapies.
Sometimes healing isn’t about pushback or hyperfocusing on symptoms. It’s can be about
being held in safety, love, and connection
not being shamed or pathologised for how your system adapted
learning to stay present with sensations and emotions until they complete on their own
discovering that feelings don’t need to be fixed to move through you
Not all healing comes from insight, interpretation, or confrontation.
Sometimes it comes from non intervention, consistency, and allowing the body to finish what it was never allowed to finish before.
When therapists insist that ai therapy cant work because there's no pushback or confrontation, they are really displaying a lack of knowledge about the various ways trauma can move in a system. Which is why people seek alternatives.
Trauma isn’t one thing.
Healing isn’t one path.
And “doing less” can sometimes be the most skilled intervention there is.
