What is this book about a high school boy?

I remember reading a book and really enjoying it when I was younger. It was about a guy who I think is in high school and he’s involved in a play, I think raising and lowering the curtains. He had a girlfriend named Vanessa. The cover also had ripping his shirt open, Superman style revealing a white shirt and black tie. Can anyone help?
