I was planning on making a diorama of IJN Yukikaze during the [naval battle of Guadalcanal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naval_Battle_of_Guadalcanal) in November 1942. I ordered this kit (Tamiya [25218](https://www.scalemates.com/kits/tamiya-25218-japanese-navy-destroyer-yukikaze-yukikaze-movie-version--1620642)) along with PE sets from Infini ([535001R2](https://www.scalemates.com/kits/infini-model-im-535001r2-ijn-destroyer-yukikaze-1945-detail-up-set--1093624)) and White Ensign Models ([35096](https://www.scalemates.com/kits/white-ensign-models-pe-35096-kagero-class-destroyer--961409)), also resin sets from Fine Molds ([31901](https://www.scalemates.com/kits/fine-molds-31901-extra-detail-up-parts-set-ijn-destroyer-yukikaze--1642644)).

The Tamiya kit just arrived today and I realized I've made a big mistake... This kit is intended to depict Yukikaze during [Operation Ten-Go](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Kikusui_I) in April 1945. Major modifications had been done by then, most noticeably replacing the super-firing rear "X" turret with various AA guns. The IJN Kagerō kit from Tamiya ([78032](https://www.scalemates.com/kits/tamiya-78032-kager--961793)) would be the same class ship during the early stages of the war. Most of the parts should be shared, but I guess I'll still have to order the Kagerō 🤦‍♂️ I'll see exactly what's the difference between the two kits, perhaps I won't need anything from the Yukikaze kit except the decals...

Tamiya 1/350 IJN destroyer Yukikaze - will be slowly tackling this one in the coming months
