Modern Day Courtesans

Recently, I’ve rewatched the movies, Burlesque and Moulin Rouge, and remembered how much I love the sensuality of these women.

The line that stood out to me in Moulin Rouge is when Satine tells Christian, “I'm a courtesan. I'm paid to make men believe what they want to believe.” It got me thinking, are FinDømmes modern day courtesans? Is there a cross over between the two? In my thoughts (please correct me if I am wrong), there is an overlap.

Historically, patrons valued giving to these women because they loved giving to these women. They sold men the fantasy of what they wanted for the night. Sometimes, it involved sex and sometimes it did not. For me, I like to lead with the sensuality over sexuality. Yes, I understand they at times are intertwined but I just love being a tease and as comfortable as I am with my body, it’s for me and me only. Ownership of my body is not up for sale. I respect everyone’s decisions to do with their own body because that’s your business and not mine.
