string recommendations?

took my bass to get setup & the dude told me i should be switching strings every ~6 months which is how long i’ve had my bass. was gonna just get ernie balls but after some research seems like they don’t last long. does anybody have a good string rec for a wide variety of music (leaning towards more edgy genres like midwest emo, goth rock, shoegaze, postpunk, posthardcore, etc)? i like round wound just because the sound they make sliding up & down the neck + the extra bite they give when picking. whatever strings came on my cv jag have been working good so far so anything similar would be nice. tyia!
