In May 2025 my long time cat Oliver passed, which took me months to come to terms with. After I moved into my apartment, I saw a stray kitty living outside. She looked just like Oliver. All of the neighbors fed her and the story was she was abandoned there, but no one had taken her in.

She showed up at my door at the beginning of November skinny and parasite ridden. She asked to come inside one cold night and she continued to do so. She didn’t use the litter box and would only go outside, so I had to continue letting her out which was very worrisome for me but every day and night I made sure she was safe and she spent most of the time safe inside.

I got her properly vetted and she did use the litter box eventually, which let me know she could be an indoor kitty after all. However, she was a very wild child for my small apartment, and with her tendency to yearn for the dangerous outdoors of the apartment parking lot, I knew she would be better off in a different lifestyle.

I begged my friends and family to take her so I could stay close to her but no takers. Just this week I finally made a post and a family responded. They were perfect for her with a big house, a catio, no children, everything a cat foster dreams of. They came and met her the next day, and then the very day after that she was adopted.

I am so sad and have cried so much. I didn’t expect it, but the emptiness of her presence is felt greatly. I am so sad after “losing” two cats, but so happy for her and her amazing new home. The adopters have even given me updates and I know she’s doing great where she is so far.

I never plan on fostering again because this tore me up, but it has made me find a new appreciation for everything fosters do. You are a champion for these babies, and to do it time after time is so admirable.

I plan on getting my own couch potatoes soon once I know Moo settles in perfectly, because she helped me realize I’m ready to love again after my losses.

Thank you again to every foster out there 🩷 much love from the broken heart of a first time foster success

Thank you Fosters
