Introducing r/desiwomenunited, a sub dedicated to diaspora women for important topics and discussions surrounding our experiences.

This sub was created by u/teakitty0722

It is moderated by u/teakitty0722, u/StuckInDreams, and I (u/Shot_Blueberry2728).

The purpose of this sub is for South Asian diaspora women (aka women of South Asian descent raised outside of South Asia) to have a safe space to discuss various topics that are are relevant and important to us.

These topics include (but are not limited to): relationships, dating, family dynamics, cultural issues, academic and career related advice, etc, all within the context of being a diaspora woman.

The reason why this sub is necessary is because there are pretty much no other active spaces on the internet solely dedicated for brown diaspora women. r/ABCDesis exists, but it is *very* male dominated, and it is often hard to discuss important issues that affect brown women without the men there accusing us of "making brown men look bad", or calling us "self-hating". There is also a tendency to invalidate or drown out brown women's voices by claiming that "brown men have it worse than brown women" and ignoring the brown female perspective.

Another major issue with r/ABCDesis is that it frequently gets brigaded and taken over by mainland Indians who either larp as diaspora Desis or bring mainland religious and cultural issues to the sub that are not relevant to diaspora desis.

A key feature of r/desiwomenunited is that it will be THOROUGHLY moderated to ensure that the sub is for diaspora women only. If you're a man who larps as a South Asian diaspora woman or tries to participate on the sub by commenting/posting, we will find out, and yes, we will ban you. This rule will be strictly and consistently enforced in order to maintain a completely safe and welcoming space for diaspora women only. There will be no exceptions. There are already PLENTY of subreddits that are already open to men and mainland Desis that you can join instead.

It is also important to note that the sub is NOT dedicated to glow-ups and "looksmaxxing". vindictabrown and splendidabrown already exists for this reason. If you try to post glow-up related content, we will redirect you to one of the vindicta subs, where your post would be more appropriate.

Thank you so much and I can't wait for this sub to grow and expand!
