Group of elderly friends transporting one of their own across borders because of someold promise.

Hi, I've been searching for this film for decades. I saw it on Belgian TV in a hotel in 1996. If I'm not mistaken it starts with a group of friends who gather at the house of one of them after many years, because of a promise they made to each other once.
The host is possibly terminally ill, or maybe dying of old age, and wants to return to view some specific faraway place one last time.
I think the film was set in Europe, and the destination was somewhere in Scandinavia.
The friends of this person try to grant this last wish, and soon they take their friend away in a small van, and set out on the long journey. For some reason they have to keep their friend hidden I think, maybe because the friend died during the journey, and they want to take the friend to that place regardless, or maybe because they smuggled their friend out of an old age home or hospital or something...

I seem to remember the TV announcer's voice saying something like this was the final (or maybe latest - at the time?) performance of one of the older male actors, but I haven't been able to find anything based on that info either.

I've witnessed this sub beat all the odds in finding some obscure gems based on people's vaguest memories of a scene they once saw on TV, and I absolutely love it!
