Fallout 4 no longer works with my Lenovo Legion Go S SteamOS edition
I have a Lenovo Legion Go S SteamOS edition. Something changed within the last 6 months with Fallout 4 where now I can't even open it up. I was able to play it prior to the last 6 months and it worked fine (from what I remember).
Please understand: This is not running Windows with the Steam app, this is running SteamOS Version 3.7.19 Build 20251124.1 with BIOS version SOCN24WW.
Now, the game always crashes at startup. 9 times out of 10 it will crash right at start-up. Sometimes I just get a black screen until it crashes. Other times I get a quick glimpse of the power armor helmet pic and then crashes (although if I blink I'd miss it; it is that fast).
1 out of 10 times, or maybe 1 out of 20, it will show a Windows dialogue box that will say something about the game going to check my video card performance, then I click ok, and a couple seconds later, it crashes.
Here's what I've tried:
- Update SteamOS
- Update Fallout 4 game files
- Verify Integrity of game files
- Uninstalled the game, rebooted, then reinstalled
- Changed Proton version under Compatibility to "Proton 10.0-4" to "Proton Hotfix", to "Proton Experimental", to "GE-Proton10-26", trying to run the game every time that I changed the compatibility layer, but none worked.
- Set launch options to "SteamDeck=0 %command%"
- Changed iPresentInterval from 1 to 0 in Fallout4.INI & Fallout4Prefs.INI located at Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 as well as Fallout4_Default.INI located c:/Program Files(x86) /Steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4 and Fallout4Prefs.INI located in the Fallout 4 subfolder.
- Changed my VRAM to 8GB
- Deleted my Save Game Files
- Unchecked all of the DLCs
- Reached out to Bethesda (Steam doesn't support it, they link to Bethesda)
None of the above works, and I can't even play Fallout 4 on my Lenovo Legion Go S (Nebula - SteamOS version).
When I reached out to Bethesda support they said that since I tried everything that they recommended:
"there's not much else we can do as we don't officially support the Legion Go. In order to receive further assistance, you're going to need to contact Lenovo Support".
Please Help! I can't wait to play Fallout 4 again! Thanks in advance!
