Installing new doorbell transformer.

ring doorbell stopped getting power. when i checked the transformer, the wire caps seemed to be getting power, but the wires on the other side were not, got a new one same issue. Disconnected the two white wires and started getting power to the other side of the trans and the doorbell. Safe?
