V - Foxglove

Foxglove, foxglove, burning bright
Infiltrates the back garden
With its exquisite loveliness
Fronds of green and pink fluttering
Through the breeze, unraveling

Something so toxic, yet so gorgeous
Sprouting through the undergrowth of forest
Proves that nature matters more than nurture
For no crossbreeding can cure her hunger.

But even the most poison plants have uses
Cures diseases, decorate witches' windowsills
Swallow one down like a bitter pill
Claimed to cure all ills
To make the body quake, then still.

If toxins can be repurposed
Then surely my torn mind can still gain purchase
A reason to continue growing
Through these weeds to bleed my hunger.
