I'm making this post based on a recent video on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_KGO1GAP9QM) about my country's address system which is something I wanted to discuss about a long time ago.

My country does not use street names in order to know where you are, we use a system that is sort of a Cartesian coordinate system, in which streets are rather numbered, which allows you to know which direction you should follow to find a place without even needing a map.

**If the video for you is TL;DW.**

**Think of X and Y axis, and draw a matrix on it, each line on X (or each horizontal line) is called Calle (which literally means Street) and a Y line (or vertical line) is called Carrera (which comes from latin** ***carrus*** **which means car, since it refers to old carriage roads). Just like a Cartesian system both Calles and Carreras increase or decrease as you move on. There are indeed some additional considerations but most of the time the pattern is the same. Image shows how it works**

We don't even use Zip Codes, because they're mostly useless. Nonetheless sometimes foreign companies like Amazon require you to add them to your shipping address. but they're basically not needed at all, since address system is better at telling you where to go.

We do name some streets according to the importance mayors gave to them or based on their historical names, but those streets still have an underlying number that is still used when writing addresses down on any document or providing it verbally to someone else.

What is the system used in your country?
