Car deposit refund??

I've recently put a £750 deposit on a car over the phone 2 days ago.

I've now decided to change my mind as I have a newborn; I could do with getting something less costly (situation with insurance has suddenly changed).

They phoned me earlier today saying someone was hounding them for the car, and asking me my situation on the licence check I was waiting for to get finance on it.

I'm going to phone tomorrow and explain the situation; I'm just wondering if I'm within my right to ask - they haven't said to me at all about it being non refundable.

I haven't signed anything either, I just paid over the phone.
