Do hair masks work on chemically treated hair?
Chemically treated hair always seems to be in that weird in between state where it looks fine at first, then a few weeks later it turns dry, frizzy, and fragile. I’ve read that once the hair structure is altered from bleaching, coloring, or relaxing, it’s harder to really “repair” it and most products just temporarily smooth things out.
That’s where I’m confused about hair masks. Some people swear they bring their hair back to life, others say they’re basically just heavy conditioners.
I have bleached and toned hair, and lately it’s been feeling rough and stretchy when wet. I use a regular conditioner but it doesn’t seem like enough anymore. I’m wondering if adding a weekly hair mask would actually help strengthen and hydrate it, or if I’m just throwing money at something that won’t make a real difference.
For those of you with chemically treated hair, did masks noticeably improve your hair over time? Or is it more about protein treatments and bond repair instead? How often do you use them without overdoing it?
Would love to hear real experiences before I start experimenting on my already fragile ends.
