Managing general surgery anxieties!
Hey broskis and broski adjacents!
I’m in the process of finalising my date for DI this year, which is cool and expensive. I am have a hell of a time with anxiety surrounding surgery though.
Unfortunately I am a guy with really bad health and medical anxiety. I’m excited but also it’s really nagging at my brain quite a bit.
Any suggestions or helpful info for managing worries about complications or worse? I keep reading “it’s as likely as an aviation incident” but as someone who also has a phobia of flying this hasn’t been overly helpful for trying to put things into perspective. As I keep finding this specific comparison, it’s also made searching for things a bit difficult.
I have dug through posts to this sub about anxiety as well and I see it’s not overly uncommon. While I really do welcome any advice here I would especially be interested in any experiences/perspectives from others with health/medical anxiety as far as surgery goes. I’d love to know anything that helped your brain calm down a bit!
Thanks!
