PhD in Marketing
Hello, I (f20) college junior am getting a degree in Psych with a Minor in econ (more elective room for math based and diverse courses than a bba in marketing) and am wondering if getting a Marketing PhD to become a professor is at all worth it? It’s the only thing i’ve found I want to do that makes livable money. But, I don’t have research experience, I do have a marketing internship, I have a low gpa due to a semester of health issues, but have a strong comeback as well (all a’s for two consecutive terms and going forth hopefully) and I am currently online at my university bc of the health thing, so getting into research would presumably from what I know be very hard (?) I want to be able to research why certain things influence people to do the things they do. And the way I can get near this while making money is a Marketing PhD.
I did have a professor say they are not as competitive as a econ or psych phd. But I’m still debating.
Is this a good idea? What can I do in the next two years to overcome a poor gpa application wise? How do I get research, a professional network? Is this even a reasonable dream to still have?
I would be fine doing a pre doc or ra position beforehand as well. Just need to look into that.
Any advice would help, literally any at all.
