Bumpy lawn, lots of moss, some grass

Hi all, just looking for some advice on fixing the my front lawn. I want to plant a tree or two in the lawn but it is very bumpy with dips and ruts due to loss of grass and loads of moss growing over everything. Should I begin by fixing the lawn first and then eventually move on to planting a tree or two? At a loss as to what to do first.
