Advice needed

I want a 20 g or .410. Self defense or varmit only. I have a 12 but age has made the kick to much. I would like advice. I tried a 12 pump and it was hard for me and of course age will only make it harder. I’m not wanting fancy or stupid. No kids in the house ever.
