James Vanderbeek death- stage 3 colon cancer?

I was also stage 3, currently NED. He had obviously been upgraded to stage 4 right? It’s really sad and I feel like they are keeping info private, which I respect….but clarity would be helpful because it does freak me out that he had the same diagnosis as me and the died.
