Time Travel Is Not What You Think. And It Is A Horrible Idea.
Consciousness if a very selfish entity. It is also very ambitious.
This is, after all, a huge part of the core of what makes us Human.
Allow me to approach and run this problem from it’s first obvious tool. Our perception.
Our perception is based and forms from our brain function. The brain translates our experiences. Then creates chemicals that are stored in our brain, to later recreate the experience mentally. However, the brain is known to fill in the gaps for us, based on passed experiences. It is also a know fact that our memories change through our lifetime. With our brain freeing space as necessary, and recreating these memories as they see fit.
The functions of our brains were wired in order to keep us alive. Safe from predators, and other dangers. Our brains are not a “real accurate recorder”. It’s more a “good enough translator”.
In thinking one can “travel through Time”, it is a common mistake to think that our consciousness will be automatically split between our “old self” and our “present self”.
I could definitely and obviously be wrong. But please indulge me and follow me on this.
For all intents and purpose, in order to witness conscious travel through the fabric of Time, as redundant as it may sound, it would be our individual consciousness that will do the traveling. Our consciousness will not become “old you” looking and “previous you”. It will be “1995 you” all over again. And 1995 “you” will just be you then, again. It would forget that Time Travel would have taken place to begin with.
Let’s not forget that Consciousness is the true backbone of Time. Without it, Time would not exist. It wouldn’t make sense.
I would love to know what other thinking minds opinions on this idea is.
Feel free to comment, and to disagree.
Thanks for reading.
