18 year marriage and I feel undesired. Is this fixable?
I’ve been married for 18 years. We function well on paper. He’s responsible, provides, helps with housework, and when I’m sick he really steps up and takes care of everything. I know he shows love through actions.
But I don’t feel desired.
He rarely initiates closeness. And when he does comment on my body, it sometimes feels immature instead of intimate. For example, recently I was naked and he said, “Look at those big boobies.” It just made me feel weird. Not sexy. Not wanted. More like I was being commented on instead of actually desired.
I don’t want to leave him. When I imagine losing him, I feel sad. I just want to feel chosen and wanted, not just taken care of. We’ve talked about feeling disconnected before, but I’m tired of being the one who brings it up and tries to fix it.
Is this something that can actually change after this many years? Has anyone shifted from this kind of dynamic into something that feels more emotionally and sexually connected? Or is this just who we are at this point?
I feel really stuck.
