AITA for Exposing the “Perfect” Girl in My Class and Ruining Prom?

So I (16F) go to a small high school where everyone knows everyone’s business before it even happens.

There’s this girl — we’ll call her Madison. She’s that girl. Straight A’s. Varsity soccer. Student council. Teachers love her. Parents adore her. She posts those “grateful for my amazing life 💕” Instagram captions.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are just surviving algebra.

Anyway.

Two weeks ago, we got assigned a huge history project. It counted as our final exam grade. We were supposed to work in pairs.

Guess who I got paired with?

Madison.

At first I thought, okay cool, easy A.

Nope.

She ghosted me.

Didn’t respond to texts. Didn’t show up to our study meet-up. Left me on read. But she kept posting on Snapchat at parties.

Three days before the project was due, she finally messaged me:
“Heyyy can you just finish it? I’ve been super busy. I’ll tell Mr. Lawson we both worked on it.”

I was mad. But I finished it. Because I didn’t want my grade wrecked.

Presentation day comes.

We go up to present.

Mr. Lawson asks Madison to explain the second half of the project — the half she was “supposed” to do.

She freezes.

Like… buffering. Windows 98 shutdown sound.

She starts making stuff up. Gets basic facts wrong. Says the Civil War ended in 1870.

The class is dead silent.

Mr. Lawson slowly turns to me and says, “Did you both contribute equally?”

And I had a choice.

Lie.

Or tell the truth.

So I said, “I did the entire project.”

You could hear someone drop a pencil in the back of the room.

Madison went red. Like, tomato red.

After class she LOST IT on me. Said I embarrassed her. Said I “could’ve handled it privately.” Said I ruined her reputation.

By lunch, the whole school knew.

By the end of the day, people were whispering about how she cheats, how she copies homework, how she only looks perfect because teachers favor her.

And here’s the part I didn’t expect.

Prom court nominations came out that week.

Madison didn’t make it.

She’s blaming me.

Her friends are DM’ing me calling me jealous and bitter.

But I just… told the truth.

So.

AITA?
