Need Advice on Abusive Power and Hostile Work Environment in DOE School
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice on how to handle a principal who is creating a hostile work environment for staff. From what I’ve observed and experienced:
• She singles out certain teachers and staff, making their work harder or assigning her tasks to them while she stays in the office.
• She favors certain colleagues and gossips with them constantly, creating a divide among staff.
• The atmosphere feels toxic, with tension, fear of retaliation, and constant favoritism.
• She seems to avoid accountability and uses her position to manipulate or pressure staff.
I want to understand my options, especially since this is affecting not only me but other colleagues too. Has anyone experienced this, and how did you handle it? Are there DOE resources or strategies to address this kind of abuse of power without it backfiring on me?
Any guidance, personal experiences, or advice would be appreciated.

But as soon as she returned, the energy and tension came back immediately. It’s shocking how much one person’s behavior can affect the entire school environment. And it’s truly sad to say that this might be behavior that the DOE
It’s also really sad and frustrating to see that this kind of behavior seems to be tolerated. Is this really what the DOE stands for? The way the school is being run, it honestly feels like the building is crying out for help, and it’s heartbreaking to watch staff and students suffer because of it.
