Can a garage be rebuilt over an unfinished basement?

without getting into the “why” too much, can someone please tell me if this is possible?

I live in a house with a small two car garage attached to the kitchen.

There is nothing under the garage, except big blocks of cement (I think it was a prefab house)

The garage, and the rest of the house, has an unfinished basement under it.

is it possible to tear down the garage and part of the kitchen and rebuild it in such a way that the garage is wider, but in the direction of the house, therefore the floor of the garage would be the ceiling of the unfinished basement a bit.

If this is possible, how is this typically done? Is it done with steel beams and pour concrete? does this type of build have a name?
