No Response From San Francisco Consulate

Visas / Migration

Hopefully this is the right place for this. If there is another Subreddit or Facebook group that would be better (I am already a member of the LMD San Francisco Facebook group), please let me know!

Apologies that this is so long, it is 50% venting and 50% WTF do I do. Here we go...

I initially applied for citizenship through LMD. I went through the whole process of getting all of my documents, getting apostilles (my mom's BC took 6 weeks to apostille from California), and then translations (which I eventually did not need). My application through the online portal was initially rejected (TERRIFYING!), but I reapplied and received credentials. I stayed up late and secured my cita at 3:10 AM PST for mid January.

I was very excited and nervous for my appointment. I traveled down from Washington State, and I planned to make a trip out of it, as I'd never been to San Francisco before.

My appointment did not go as expected. In reviewing my documents, the Consulste staff instructed me that I did not qualify to apply through LMD, and I needed to apply Recuperación instead. They handed me back my documents and copies (one of them they had already stamped), and told me to follow the instructions on the website. They never gave me any written explanation for my rejection.

I have since been speaking to a lawyer to help with the Recuperación process. The website is confusing and lists required documents that I have never had. My biggest issue is my dad's Certificate of Naturalization. He no longer has the original, ordering a new one would cost $500, not including getting a certified copy and then an apostille from DC. Meanwhile, all of my apostilles for my documents are expiring soon.

I have tried emailing the Consulate multiple times for both clarification on the requirements, and to ask for a written explanation of my rejection. I have sent in questions with a friend from the Facebook group, and she sent back instructions to email them. I have seen people get same-day responses (even within the same hour) and my emails keep getting ignored. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I do not have the ability to figure that out because they will not get back to me.

I am completely at a loss here...

Alright, vent over. TIA to anyone who has read this insanely long post.

If anyone has any advice about dealing with this Consulate, I would love to hear it!
