Anhedonia
I am fishing for insights about anhedonia due to quitting caffeine.
A year ago I quit caffeine and after all headaches had passed I veeeeeeeeeeeeery slowly descended into gloom. I am calm, mostly indifferent, slightly negative. Firstly I didn’t pay too much attention to it as I thought it is just life.
Here is what happened then:
-
I stopped exercising (I thought it is bad weather, then aging). In retrospect I was out of energy and motivation to live.
-
I started desperately overeating (I thought it was just random binge eating disorder attack and I need to fix myself). In retrospect it was lack of energy trying to fix itself through high calories.
-
I wasn’t happy (I thought life is tough, I am aging, and nobody is supposed to be happy at this point). In retrospect, it was anhedonia which I was developing post caffeine quitting
Now I am not quitting that dramatically. I still consume some mild black tea. The headaches part had never bothered me too much. First three weeks were total garbage but it is okay. I moved on.
BUT anhedonia is here. I recognise it now. Is it awful? Not yet but I am moving there. Here is what I observe:
-
I stopped exercising. Excuse - weather and aging.
-
I started overeating. Excuse - weather and lack of energy and motivation.
-
I am getting unhappy with everything and after work all I want is to come home, go horizontal and drink orange juice by gallons.
I definitely know - I am not about to screw up my shape with this anhedonia! One more week I give to it. If I will continue to be a hungry lump - screw it. I would rather have a funny sleep but will be a happy person
