FMLA question re: family intermittent leave

I recently applied to use FMLA due to my father's cancer diagnosis. It has been nothing but a nightmare to say the least. First time, papers were never received even with proof the fax went through. Then the papers weren't dated right according to the specialist, now because he is in a hospice facility certain words need to be added to the request. This is the most frustrating thing I've ever been through! I also requested to telework full time so I can care for him, and have been told that's an accomodation request, so that's something else I need to do. I'm not sure if I'm whining or just really have a valid frustration here. I'm curious what others have experienced.
