Hey fellow sawdust makers,
It's been a busy week in the shop knocking out projects that have been sitting in “almost done” purgatory.
Right after wrapping up the 6' candy cane, I got the base cut and primed for its smaller cousin. First coat is next what are we thinking for color? Espresso brown, classic red, or clean white?
The crook is sanded smoother than the big one (learned a thing or two....or a dozen), and it feels better in the hand. She’s about ready to go paint the town red and white.

The wife wanted to see our Evergreen Trees in stain instead of paint, so I cut, sanded, and dry fit them in the jig today. Honestly… they’re looking decent. Once I glue them up, what’s your best way to hide nail holes without ruining the grain? Plan is to let the wood speak for itself. Thinking dark espresso, walnut, or a lighter stain?
Also on the bench: a small lantern frame. Originally had grand plans to rent these out for events. That idea met reality as i failed to fully work through that thought process. So now they’re pivoting to a different purpose. Good concept, just needed better follow through. Happens to the best, and apparentlythe worst of woodworkers😆.

On deck is a custom shelf for a buddy..dry fit looks solid. It’ll be stained and packed up for their new place. Sneaking in a few subtle “Easter eggs” for them too.

Last but not least, the newest experiment: a modular vertical sign. This one spun out of the lantern pivot. Idea is it could serve as a drink display, seating chart frame, and if needed, swap faces and become a plinko board. Design would allow quick face changes with a pegboard insert.
Worth the effort? Or am I building myself another lesson in humility?
Appreciate the feedback as always.
