As someone who has dedicated many years to the craft of multimedia, whether through photography, video production, or the countless details that go into bringing visual stories to life, I find myself both intrigued and concerned by the rise of AI in our industry.

From AI-generated photos and automated video creation to fully synthetic videos, the conversation around technology and creativity has shifted dramatically. These tools are undeniably powerful. They can spark ideas, speed up processes, and even help us visualize concepts that might otherwise stay locked in our imagination.

But here’s the concern: are we unintentionally removing the very thing that makes creative work impactful...the human element?

# The Role of Human Creativity

Creativity is not simply about producing an image or video. It is the culmination of lived experience. The way human beings feel emotions, endure struggles, celebrate victories, and navigate reality, this is what shapes art. It’s the imperfections, the perspective, the suffering and joy behind a work that give it authenticity and resonance.

AI can generate a polished picture or video, but it cannot feel. It cannot live. And in that absence, there is a risk of losing the soul of creation.

# The Place for AI

This isn’t to say AI has no place in multimedia. I see immense value in using AI as part of the inspiration process, a brainstorming partner, that can stretch the imagination, challenge perspectives, and push creative boundaries. But when we begin to take credit for machine-generated work as though it were our own, we blur the line between inspiration and imitation.

For professionals who pour passion, craft, and years of practice into their work, this raises important questions. How do we ensure that AI complements creativity rather than replaces it? How do we protect the integrity of artistic expression while embracing the innovations that AI can bring?

# Moving Forward

I don’t believe the right course of action is to resist AI altogether. Instead, we need to define its place responsibly within our creative industries. Let it be a tool, not a replacement. Let it inspire us, but not take away the raw, irreplaceable humanity that defines true art.

Because at the end of the day, while technology can generate content, only people can create meaning.
