The one formula that tells you if your strategy actually has edge (most traders never calculate this)

If you don't know your breakeven win rate, you're flying blind.

Here's the formula:

Breakeven Win Rate = 1 / (1 + Average RR)

Examples:

  • Average RR of 1:1 → You need 50% win rate to break even
  • Average RR of 1:2 → You need 33.3% to break even
  • Average RR of 1:3 → You need 25% to break even

Now here's where it gets interesting. You don't just calculate this for your overall performance — you calculate it per strategy.

Your liquidity sweep setup might have a 2.5 avg RR with 55% win rate = very profitable.

Your order block setup might have a 1.1 avg RR with 48% win rate = barely surviving.

Same trader. Two completely different edges. If you're not separating them, your "overall" stats are meaningless averages.

How to actually use this:

  1. Group your trades by strategy
  2. For each strategy, calculate avg winning RR
  3. Apply the formula
  4. Compare against your actual win rate
  5. If actual WR > breakeven WR + 10% → you have real edge (green)
  6. If actual WR is within 10% of breakeven → marginal, be careful (yellow)
  7. If actual WR < breakeven → you're losing money on this strategy (red)

Then do the same filter by day of week, by session time, and by the specific confluences you use.

I automated all of this into a trading journal I'm building — it color-codes every strategy and breakdown automatically. Opening early access for 50 traders if you want to try it: www.tradingsfx.com

But even manually, start running these numbers. Most traders are shocked at what they find.
